Function

Junior / Intern Buyer

Position Purpose

To ensure that the purchasing needs relating to goods and services for the business are met, in the most professional, efficient, and cost-effective manner and always in line with company policy.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Place purchase orders as required, for the right quantity, price, and delivery time
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchases and services ordered
  • Ensure requisitions and purchased goods are validated for accuracy, performing necessary reconciliations and queries with vendors and stores when needed
  • Ensure that purchase requirements are established by business needs, sourced, and placed accurately with approved vendors and all aspects are monitored and controlled
  • Ensure that competitive prices are always obtained, and ensure that cost saving initiatives are implemented where reasonable and possible, recording such savings where required
  • Ensure that vendor data relating to pricing and terms are accurate and maintained
  • Play an active role in supporting the manufacturing plant, by being visible and hands-on in ensuring availability of materials and services
  • Maintain sound and professional working relationships with suppliers and internal customers

Profile

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree / Purchasing Diploma or similar
  • Experience within a buying environment is desired
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Experience in Purchasing and Inventory Control – preferably within a manufacturing and/or engineering environment
  • Communication skills – written and verbal
  • Financial acumen – understanding basic financial practice
  • Computer Literacy – practical application of Excel, Outlook
  • ERP system experience
  • Good work ethic with the ability to work independently
  • Good interpersonal and team skills
  • Willingness to want to grow within the purchasing and supply chain environment, through active involvement across the function
